Restorative Dentistry (sometimes referred to as Crown & Bridge Work) is the area of dentistry concerned with the rehabilitation of the heavily filled or otherwise broken down dentition.
This is carried out by means of Crowns, Fixed Bridge Work, Veneers - or a combination of these techniques. These procedures can also be used to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile.
Crowns
A Dental Crown is used to preserve the function of a damaged tooth. Crowns can be used to protect a cracked tooth, restore the function of a tooth with extensive decay or infection of the root canal, or replace an existing crown.
The reason for a crown is to encase a damaged tooth with custom designed material to strengthen the tooth and reduce tooth loss. If you find yourself needing a crown you will be able to choose the material the crown is made of. The preferred material for a crown is all porcelain. Offering a secure and strong restoration, porcelain can act like a natural tooth in strength, function and appearance.
Bridges
If you're missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in your natural function such as chewing and speaking. You may find that over time, the shape of your face / profile may change along with your natural bite and this may affect your self-confidence.
Replacing missing teeth by literally 'bridging' the gap, a bridge is one option to help restore your function, improve your health and alleviate the pain that an incorrect bite can cause. Made of porcelain, bridges are bonded in place by crowns attached to natural teeth on either side of the space.
Veneers
Teeth that are strong can be cosmetically restored by the application of veneers. Veneers are porcelain shells that can be used to restore chipped, gapped, stained, or misaligned teeth. They are thin but hard porcelain shells that are custom made to bond to the front surface of your teeth.
Porcelain Veneers can provide a beautiful smile and achieve dramatic or subtle improvements in the appearance of your teeth. Veneers are a simple procedure, which are a more conservative alternative to Crowns and also a stronger, longer lasting alternative to Bonding.
